Great Youth Baseball on Display at Swing For Fences Tournament

Team Missouri Retro proved anything is possible once you get to bracket play on Sunday.  The 9u Team Missouri Retro went 0-2 during pool play to then make a memorable run on Sunday in capturing the 9u Swing For the Fences championship.

An 8-6 victory over Shield-Navy got the day started for Team Missouri Retro, advancing them to play the #1 seeded Rawlings Tigers-Bryant who they lost to on Saturday. The outcome would be different this time around as Team Missouri defeated the Rawlings Tigers-Bryant team, 11-8.  Their next opponent would just so happen to be the other team they lost to on Saturday, the STL Browns.

Team_Mo_Retro_9Team Missouri Retro would avenge another Saturday loss with an 8-5 victory to capture the 2016 title.

The 10u division didn’t see as many upsets on Sunday as the STL Academy Legends carried over the momentum they build on Saturday.  However it wasn’t an easy walk to the title for the Legends as they had to win 5-4 over Nashville Sting and another one run game, 7-6 over Granite City Braves to raise the championship trophy.

After only giving up 8 runs in pool play on Saturday, Nitro continued to showcase great defense on their way to capturing the 11uA title.  Nitro would win 17-2 over Sox in their semi-final game and then 11-0 over Bulldogs in the championship game.

Upsets were the story during the semi-final round in the 11uAA division as the Rawlings Tigers-Gilmore knocked off the 2-0 Missouri RedLegs, 8-7 to advance to the title game.  The STL Jets accomplished a similar feat winning 15-6 over the 2-0 Rawlings Tigers-Johns to earn their chance to play for the title.

Chalk would hold true in the 12u division as the top two teams from pool play would meet for the championship in the form of the Brighton Bombers and Shield-Niekamp.  Brighton Bombers defeated Shield-Niekamp, 12-4 during Pool Play.

A second Team Missouri team took home the top trophy in their division as Team Missouri Retro-Cissell captured the Gold Division of the 13u tournament. It took a while on Sunday for the offense to get going for Team Missouri as they won 4-2 games over STL Redbirds and Washington Ravens in advancing tot he title game. Team Missouri Retro would defeat a formidable STL Bandits team 11-3 in the championship game.

The Mineral Area Nationals would emerge as the champions of the Silver Division with an 8-3 victory over STL Naturals-Rhodes on Sunday night at Woodlands Sports Complex.  The Nationals defeated the Bulldogs 9-4 in the semi-final round after shutting out the St. Charles Capitals-Dobey, 10-0 in their opening game of bracket play.

After going 1-1 in Pool Play the Metro Maniacs saved their best baseball for Sunday en route to capturing the 14u Swing For the Fences title.  After defeating the Southside Dirtbags, 12-0 at 8am the Metro Maniacs returned at 2pm to face the #1 seed Rawlings Prospects-Canada.  Metro Maniacs defeated Rawlings Prospects, 8-2 before knocking off Rawlings Tigers-Gilmore, 9-4 to capture the championship.
